RWBY & RT General Discussion Thread (V1)

People on SB are in denial about πŸπŸ’•s again. Because clearly if Yang and Blake don't immediately start making out in the all of 50 seconds they've shared onscreen in the FIRST EPISODE of the volume then clearly we shouldn't expect the writers to take their relationship any further for the entire rest of the volume.

Note most of them don't even seem to be arguing against the bees being gay. They're just being weirdly and incredibly defeatist about the a tv show in 2023 having gay main characters. Despite already having gay and trans characters and being made by the same company that had a genderfluid main character.

Holy macaroni I just noticed something potentially interesting.

I was scrolling through a Tumblr feed and saw the cat concept art that got released a while ago. Then I saw the Tumblr calling the cat Curious Cat with capital letters. So I look closer and sure enough there it is at the top. Curious Cat.

So for a moment I think "that's probably a placeholder name".

But then I remember that I watched the first episode and the little scene several times earlier today.

And what did Little say?

"To Ruby Rose is your purpose?"

"I don't have a name. I'm too young." (β‰ˆ at least)

"I don't have anything to do yet."

It was speculated a lot when the teaser came out that for beings in the Ever After their Name and their Purpose are the same thing.

And that theory got a lot more fuel when we met the Jabberwalker. Which is constantly jabbering while its walking.

So what if Curious Cat is actually the name of the cat and his name means exactly what it sounds like. His purpose is to be a cat that is curious. And what could be more curious indeed than these strange beings that no in the Ever After have ever seen anything like before?

Certainly for a Curious Cat there is no choice but to accompany these strange beings so that he can learn more about them and satisfy his curiosity.

Also with Little appointing themselves as a Guide for Team RWBY i wonder if they might have accidentally have set themselves on the path towards getting a Name by giving themselves a Purpose. Maybe they'll become Little Guide or something like that?

Hah! What if they gain the ability to lead people to and from the Ever After and open up the ability to more easily travel by becoming the Guide between realms? :D

Also a theory: while it could have been misleading some of the shots in the trailer made it look like Neo will meet and team up with the Jabberwalker.

Neo is mute and can't talk while the Jabberwalker seemingly literally can't stop talking.

What if the Jabberwalker has the ability to mimic people's voices, even the voices of people it's never met and it uses that ability in conjunction with Neo's physical and visually real but soundless illusions to patch up the one major flaw in Neo's Semblance, causing the two combined to become a vastly more dangerous threat than either are alone and leading to some severely fucked up mind games?

Why is Neo so mad in this scene? What if the Jabberwalker is speaking all her thoughts out loud or something like that?

Alternatively she could be meeting the "leave your old self behind" lady or be seeing visions of Roman or something from the mindfuck environment.

Oh and is it raining? I think it is? Would make sense considering what happens every time Ruby gets sad.

"Bumbleby is obviously queerbaiting"
- every single time an unambiguously-romantic moment happens between Blake and Yang

Mhm, solid additions there!

I have also seen it reasoned she might be a sort of shade of the real Alyx, with RWBY retracing her stories steps to try and get out.

Also, (Laughs nervously) He's in danger:

Looking at the time....
looks like it's 2 o'clock, about to be 2:01.
so instead of "No Eleventh Hour" I think instead it ties into something else.
Jaune is both The White Knight AND The White Rabbit.
The Rabbit is famous for "I'm Late!", i.e. Jaune always being to late to save.

So, for those of us that don't have crunchyroll, keep an eye out. I found it on youtube earlier, but that one is gone now, replaced by those 'view it off site' ones that my firewall snaps at like an angry dog :p

oh well
this means I'll either need to ask my girlfriend for her crunchyroll info or I just kill time playing Tales of Symphonia on my switch till I find the episode somewhere.

The name elements make a ton of sense, kudos there and thanks for sharing!

I was thinking 'Little Helper' but Little Guide makes more sense.

Also lookie, someone piece the end credits together!

*thinks about what could happen to the Afterians if this world/plane gets destroyed in the end*
*thinks back to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening*

We are slapping wings on you and calling you Marin.

A good article.

And hey, speaking of Ironwood and discourse around him: one thought I had earlier was that while definitely unintentional I think it was a very good writing decision to have Yang's arm get stolen. Shots like the one of her lying on the ground with one arm around Blake and the other just not there is a good way to remind people that yeah Yang is actually disabled and a good person.

I have seen way too many hot takes that treet Ironwood as the only disabled character or claiming that RWBY is a story that says that prosthetics makes you evil while treating Yang and Maria like chopped liver.
