Just came across a comment saying that Pietro had a backdoor for remotely controlling Penny and how that was ethically dubious.
And I'm just sitting here thinking "Are we talking about the chips in her swords, or when Penny willingly let her Father control her to hack the Atlas computer?"
Cause like....Penny seems very aware of what her body can do. Was it creepy when Pietro suddenly started talking through Penny? Heck yeah it was. But there was consent there to use that function. As for WHY that function is there in the first place, we will never know as Penny and Ironwood are both dead so there is no reason for the show to bring it up. As for the Swords, I doubt Pietro planned for those to be used as a way to control his Daughter.
So in short, putting the blame for the ethically dubious stuff at Pietro's feet is really not being fair.

For the swords Watts straight up says that the backdoor he's exploiting needs to be there if Penny wants to control her swords. She needs to communicate with them to control them like she does, it's not like Grimm would know how to turn that against her, and any lesser hacker than Watts (who also got material support from the head honcho of Atlas) probably wouldn't have been able to hack her even with that backdoor.

Plus in ordinary circumstances Pietro would probably have had time and energy to think about the stolen sword and change the codes/shut off communication to stop potential hackers. But volume 8 was a very busy time for everyone.

As for WHY that function is there in the first place,
Well we already saw one benefit, Pietro can lens his technical expertise from a remote location. If Penny is out in the field and gets damaged in ways she doesn't know how to fix then her dad can remote in and help her patch herself up.
