So I know this is gonna sound hard to believe, but there actually does exist a decent rewrite(or rather reimaginig as this one calls itself)
that *gasp* is respectful towards the original series! It's call RWBY Re:Mixed. While other rewrites have removed certain aspects from the original this one adds to the series(Ruby is explicitly autistic, Ren non-binary, Yang bisexual, and Jaune still starts out as an insufferable twat.) The author also puts limitations on themselves on what they can write. I know most rewrites are arrogant dogshit, but there is at least one diamond in the rough.

ok, but why make Ruby explicitly autistic or Ren non-binary?
like, for AU like your standard Modern Age time deal where they are highschoolers/college/young adults and those kinds of aspects are a focus of the story that is one thing.
But if you are trying to keep it within the same realm, with the same beats, and just trying to novelize the show but written better with hindsight as your friend, why make a point of adding traits?
Adding can be as messy as removing when it comes to crafting a recipe.

Sounds neat, I'll add it to my read later list for now, but yeah its an actual fanfic and treated as such rather than a profiteering bitch-fest and its utilizing the potential of such a premise (IE X series retold) to use what's known now earlier to enhance the story. I confess I can't see Yang as anything but a lesbian though XD

What makes you think Ruby isn't autistic, or Ren isn't non binary or trans, or otherwise gender non conforming? And more, why is that an issue for a fanfiction?

6 days till the digital release.

And we get some deets on the second member of Team BRIR, Roane Ashwood.

Rebellious yet honor-bound, Roane is a member of Team BRIR. She may seem mellow at first, but becomes quite fiery, especially when unleashing her signature weapon: a flamethrower combined with a flail! RWBY: Arrowfell hits consoles and PC on Nov. 15! https://bit.ly/RWBY_Steam

Her flamethrower was already the most badass looking weapon on Team BRIR but it doubles as a fucking flail? That is so cool! Those sunglasses are well earned! 😎

And Ashwood is such a badass name for a flame themed character. Heh. And apparently she has a bit of a fiery personality, how unexpected. :p

Not sure who/what she is based on

but here are some links I found while trying to look stuff up
wiki page on the Ash plant
wiki page for Rowan, "Mountain-Ash"
wiki page for Roan, a type of coat color on animals

so Ashwood is a wood that lights and burns easy (barbacue wood), also used as stakes for killing vampires
Rowan are thought to provide protection from witches and has helped wayward travelers (even saved Thor as the God of Thunder clung to one to prevent himself from drowning)
Roan, white center but colored limbs

and the last one finally surfaces, it's Ruda Tilleroot
"Though cheerful and humble, Ruda shouldn’t be underestimated; her Semblance and Drill Gauntlets allow her to “swim” underground to surprise her adversaries! She cares greatly for her Team BRIR teammates."

SHE IS A MOLE!! XD (and I will laugh if she is actually a mole faunus or at least based on a mole)

the ruta plant
tiller is a gardening tool used to dig through the the dirt

I just like how well each member seems to pair against a respective member of RWBY

Ruby - Bianca - leaders, and long/mid range vs close range
Weiss - Roane - Ice VS Fire
Blake - Ivy - sarcastic humor and weapons that can whip it
Yang - Ruda - "THESE FISTS ARE RATED E FOR EVERYONE!"

and oooooh I can just imagine Yang getting annoyed if she has to 1v1 Ruda as she swims in and out of the ground like the worst game of "Whack-a-mole".

since the megoliath is the first boss, what I think will happen is that after that fight it gets back up again, slaps RWBY, but then BRIR jumps in for the save.

EDIT: also I read the new chapter I was talking about.....and Atlas is about to have more than political issues and Salem's forces to worry about.
