RWBY & RT General Discussion Thread (V1)

So a tvtropes segment brought up a very interesting detail about Adam.
Interesting. Also interesting is that Adam is a Faunus Supremacists. He believes Faunus are inherently better than humans and that they have the power and right to do to humans what humans have done to Faunus.

However his belief in Faunus superiority is based around Faunus having everything humans have an more. Human A is a good fighter, Faunus A is a good fighter with night vision and the keen hearing of a cat. Human B is a skilled acrobat, Faunus B is a skilled acrobat with a monkey tail that provides better balance and a fifth limb to grab onto ledges and pick up objects with.

And so on.

But if your view on how to treat people is based around what kind of abilities they have then what does that mean for people who don't have useful abilities in your eyes?

Well then they're just inferior garbage too, and should be disposed of or taken advantage of like the rest of the trash.

ya know, that image gets me thinking
What if this mystery character is based on some fabled smithy?
Like Hephaestus, the Greek God of the Forge, who is known for both being disfigured and having taken a fall from Mt. Olympus (either by Hera chucking him off for being disfigured/ugly, or by Zeus after Heph got between Big Z and Hera and got blasted off for his efforts and got disfigured that way).

Honestly that could be pretty neat... Goodness just imagining her as the banished smith of the gods now.

Or, it could be Summer having fallen into the role of a fallen smith.
We do see a very Huntsmen-like weapon in the trailer.
And given that Yang and Ruby made their own weapons, wouldn't it be fair to say that Summer would also have knowledge like that?

So I've rewatched vol 5 for the first time in full(the blu ray sucks). One interesting detail that I noticed is, when Vernal is telling Raven that Cinders posse's at their camp, you can see Ravens sword shaking in her hand. She's trembling. We see first hand how terrified Raven is of Salem before Yang even spells it out for us.

Also, another mythological smithy they could be based on is Wayland the Smith of Germanic Mythology.

*does a quick look up*
OK if we just look at the famous swords he made and who is connected to said swords.....yeah I can see it.
And if this person makes Jaune a new sword it could be seen as maybe an amalgamation of the swords listed.
Neat.

One thing I have always loved about RWBY is the way body language is always a thing. There's never just generic standing around with one characters head moving.

Ok. For the first time I'm actually hyped for one of these Justice League crossovers. Though I have to admit I'm also a bit bummed that all this cool animation and world building and fight scene stuff is being done for a likely non-canon crossover instead of the main show.

I would have liked to see these bigger longer fights and cool tech and new Huntsmen in the big battle in volume 8 instead of here in some ?canon? void.

I'd like it if these resources were channeled into the show as well, but we have what we have and I confess the project looks like some lighthearted actiony fun which I certainly wouldn't protest.

The battle for Atlas felt like a bit of a letdown in many ways and with how limited RT resources are I'd have preferred an IQ approach to the DC stuff where some other studio handled the animation while CRWBY could have focused their resources on actual RWBY.

Still, yeah... No use crying over spilled milk and all that. I just hope that even if the DC specific stuff isn't canon they will use the opportunity to flesh out Remnant at least.

Little bit worried about seeing the Wyvern being used as a boss. I was hoping that would be a truly epic endgame boss when it finally returns and I worry that having it beaten here will cheapen it.

I thought the Battle of Atlas looked good myself, but that might be cos it was about what I expected and I didn't consider resources were already being sent elsewhere?

Mhm, I think the fact we see Weiss in Atlas other scenes in Atlas and Blake in Kuo Kuana will give some weight to that.

I don't think that's Kevin myself, it looks too small, though even if it is.. I kind of see your point but given some of the other Grmm seen since, I don't hold Kevin in the same regard as I once did XD

The Cenitaur fight and the Hound fights that overlapped with it where animated really badly. But no my complaint wasn't really that Atlas had bad looking fights, but rather that the epic showdown of Salem finally taking to the field for the first time barely got any focus and the big battle stuff was almost entirely in the background. Its like if Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers skipped 90% of the Battle of Helms Deep.

I mean, we got an entire Atlas arc but never even saw any of the other Teachers at the Academy or any Huntsmen besides the Ace Ops, not even as background stills like with Mistral in the first episode of volume 5.

The Beringel army that got so much focus was just one small part of the background. FNKI were the only students we got to see being drafted and they barely got to do anything, we didn't even see any generic design students in the battle.

And I would really have liked to see those big Atlesian airships in action after having them looming overhead for 3 volumes in a row.

To name a few things. Looking at how much stuff seems to be in this movie it seems like the battle of Atlas could have been epic in scope and shown more of the struggle in Mantle and the protagonists doing stuff too if V8 had been delayed a bit and the resources used on DC was instead given to the main show.

Hmm, I sort of see your point, though with the Cenitaur I thought the goal was more "Desperate an exhausted person is barely staying up" so maybe I didn't interpret it right. The Hound had some problems though I always focus on the horror bits before so I forget the battle itself XD Anyway fair enough, as I said, I would have liked more but at the time I figured this was the peak of what they could be doing, now I know otherwise it is a bit disappointing, but I still like it.

That didn't really bother me as I don't think teachers would have been relevant and the cast were essentially Huntresses now; it could have been fun but if they had spare resources I'd not have them spent on that.

Yeah fair on the Beringral and student fronts.

I always thought they were meant to be glass cannons myself so different strokes I guess?

True, true, sadly very true :/

Nah the Cenitaur+Hound fights wasn't a problem of characters being tired, it was the animation being rushed and everything looking stuff and unnatural as a result. There's a big difference between well animated tired characters and what happened there. Plus they just had a big rest so they shouldn't have been tired in the first place. The fight really needed more powerful looking blows from the Hound and the Cenitaur to sell the idea that Ruby and Blake were worn down by damage rather than being struck with a sudden case of incompetence and inexplicable weakness.

Weiss's icicles awkwardly dropping to the ground looked like they were thrown with barely any force, it would be better for the Hound to nimbly weave between high speed icicles that shoot straight up like bullets (as they do in every other scene). Instead of Ruby getting dropped like a sack and then both failing to land properly and somehow having her Aura break from a dinky little fall have the Hound hurl her into the ground like a missile and create a big crater from the impact to sell the attack as something her Aura couldn't handle. Etc.

Like I said the teachers wouldn't even have to be proper characters. Worst case they wouldn't even need to have models. But they really could have used some background matte paintings with teachers and students in them to sell the idea that Atlas Academy is an actual place where people live and study and have lives outside of Team RWBY's adventures.

I can't really agree on being glass cannons but that's besides the point. They barely do anything. I would have liked to see more examples of those laser cannons being used to support the ground forces and take out large flying Grimm. And for both the ships and the troops on the ground to have turret defenses like on the Argus Limited and that WoR episode because it really breaks immersion that there's so little of those when they're so useful and specifically mentioned in the world building as something every random village should have if they want to survive yet we don't see it used by the most tech focused and biggest military.

Also on the ships I would have liked to see the Tempest in action properly too. We hear about them zapping stuff out of the sky, I wanted to see that in the battle and how it affects things when they moved closer to the frontline and brought their zappy deathclouds with them. ⚡

Don't get me wrong I know the action isn't the most important thing to focus on... But it is an action show and its not unimportant either. And knowing that this DC thing exists and might have taken away resources that could have been used to make Volume 8 be as epic as it looked set to be when Salem arrived in style during volume 7?

Well it's kinda giving me some flashbacks to volume 5 and how what should have been an epic brawl at Haven mostly fizzled into nothing and then later learning that it was because gen:LOCK sucked up resources that should have been spent on making Haven a suitably epic follow-up to the battle of Beacon.

Though in the interest of not being overly negative at least this tile resources funnelled away from RWBY the show is used directly for more RWBY content that might make the show more popular and profitable, hopefully giving it more resources in the future.

Also if they're going to Atlas and Menagerie and so on then hopefully those locations can be fleshed out more and given more world building in a way that feels more canon than the comic books and a hypothetical IQ style show would have been.

I like the look of that aircraft that Diana is jumping over at the start of the trailer. It's something I would have liked to see more of in volume 8 instead of having Mantas used for everything, so I hope this is actually a Remnant aircraft and not something specific to the DC characters.

Those matte paintings of some cities also look nice, I hope that means we might get to see more parts of Remnant. Like maybe those are the coastal cities mentioned in the Vale WoR, or what Patch looks like.

On the positive spin front I do think that basically every DC Remnant design looks better now than it did in the comic. Except Superman. He looks a bit awkward.

The trailer calls attention to the DC cast getting a redesign and there's been comic covers showing Team RWBY with DC style redesigns. So I wonder if this crossover mechanic will work like the Belt of Genre Changing in Rusty and Co.

Would be cool if Part 2 was animated by a DC animation team in that case. I don't think it will happen but it would be cool if the animation styles reflected the settings from the ground up.
