People on Remnant sure do love their cute animal shaped food. Between this and the cat bread in Kuroyuri I'm starting to sense a trend.


Tons of other delicious looking stuff on that page, I'd like to note that it's probably a good thing Cinder wasn't undercover alongside Neo. Pretty sure this would have given her PTSD flashbacks:

Vol 9 is really once again showing why it's so great that RWBY didn't go with the constant dark dreary, depressing edgy route post V3 like some people said it "should" have done V9 has our character…

This reminds me a lot of the Jimquisition "crying through the laughs" episode.

And yeah I feel like volume 3 wouldn't have been such an effective tragedy if not for volume 1 & 2 being so bright and cheery. And Ironwood's fall and the subsequent fall of Atlas were fantastic and impactful moments of tragedy that worked so well because volume 4-6 (and the first half of 7 + the battle of Mantle) hadn't steadily worked to increase the average amount of cheer and happiness in the show before things went to shit again.


And we really needed volume 9 to be a fun breather volume after all the shit that happened in volume 8. Penny's eulogy worked so much better than it would have done if Ruby had been forced to be miserable the entire volume, but between Little and meeting her team again she's had just enough happiness that her sadness over Penny's death stands out even more.

The reason I haven't posted a critique of it on Tumblr is one specific scene which I cannot think of any reason except one for its existence, so content warning for anyone who is willing to put themselves through this crap:
There's a flashback to a younger Adam Taurus, working while his mother is nearby. A human man who is revealed to be their landlord shouts abuse at Adam, then whispers something into the ear of Adam's mother, who then goes into their apartment with the landlord while Adam looks on angrily.

I cannot think of anything this scene is meant to imply other than that the landlord is exploiting Adam's mother. Which, on top of using the victimization of a woman solely for a male character's story in an attempt to make him more sympathetic, is also using the abuse of a woman to whitewash a character who in RWBY canon is an abuser of women himself.

Words cannot describe my contempt for the pathetic, sick fuckers who not only created this trashheap of a story but those who support and applaud it.

A fairy tale world clowning on Weiss... while also showing the trauma she's been through.

Seriously, I'm convinced that's a large part of the reason she's reacting so strongly. She desperately needs logic and stability right now, and she's got a talking racoon driving a purple wagon full of trash and full on Loony Toons Physics. That Bees moment was a desperately needed oasis in the middle of a desert of grief.

So, as an aside, I just notriced on rewatch but in episode 1, Yang tried to broach whether Ruby was OK and got shut down, in episode 2:

Weiss tried early the episode after they talked a bit about Atlas but Ruby just turned away; then Blake tried near the end after Ruby gave away Penny's sword and similarly got dismissed.

Like, they want to help her, but Ruby's shutting down any attempt to reach out to her and they are all still stuck in problem solving mode too.

Cos as far as they're concerned they're all still on the clock to go home and continue the fight, they don't know, narratively, that this area is one they can actually use to decompress and process their trauma.

The Red 👑 plays a rigged game where you don't win by making smart moves about where to place your pieces but instead where the outcome is decided by how good your pieces are at fighting, and his opponents pieces are all paid/threatened to take the fall so that he wins by default.

Alyx probably had to do something quite clever or find some way to cheat in order to beat him. But for Team WBY? They can just play his own game right back at him but better, because they're basically adults and they're Huntresses so they just beat the shit out of his pieces despite being outnumbered.


And Neo vs the Jabberwalker? Yeah that encounter really solidified the prince and cats words that made it sound like humans are as Eldritch and alien to the inhabitants of the island as the beings on the island are to humans.

this old Kamen Rider scene was used as inspiration in a recent chapter of a fanfiction I follow.
Just imagine the one getting smacked around as Tyrian.
though to note Tyrian did not get killed. Just;
had his mechanical tail ripped off
had his wrist mounted weapons destroyed
and was beat into a bloody pulp
all before being tied back up and left for Atlas troops to find


In short, do not slaughter innocent people and laugh about it when a Good Boi Kamen Rider is around.
