Yeah, the Paladin incident is a great example. We can guess there was a mecha, and Watts faked his death very convincingly, but that still tells us nothing really. Was it back when they were still in development or after deployment? A weapons malfunction or a mecha running haywire? Did Watts mean to fake his death, or did Salem grab him them and make her offer? And what's with the 2000 gallons of chocolate syrup?!

Fuck it. I went for it.
Although I almost gave up because Crunchyroll is stupid and made it obligatory to fill in a phone number during Checkout but then made it incredibly unintuitive to fill it out.
Why is there a separate box for country codes if you want me to include the country code in the regular phone number box? And why do the 3 leftmost digits get included in a () bubble when there's only 2 digits (and a + sign but it won't let me type the + sign) in the country code? It mixes the country code with part of the actual phone number and looks dumb and weird. For a while I genuinely thought they'd been stupid enough to program their website to only accept USAmerican phone numbers. It's
stupid! Oh well. At least I got the pre-order in the end, while they still had stock. Incidentally the reason I thought it would be Crunchyroll or bust is because the book is seemingly sold out already in the other stores that sell it.
I think the only reason CT has any stock is because it's not available yet. Mind this is a book written in Japanese for a show that originated in the US and is first and foremost an English speaking show. So the fact that the book is already sold out a lot of places says a lot about how valuable the IP is. Especially since I'm pretty sure I was just looking at the stores aimed at selling to the audience outside of Japan.

So, a friend of mine tried out RWBY for the first time. They hit all the expected reactions of people actually paying attention to the show, and are now going through withdrawals

It's funny because for a good chunk of time between then and when the episodes were coming up, they had the FIRST branding all over it (when people couldn't even get FIRST anymore) implying they didn't realize/check until literally the last minute and had to signal boost in order to tell people about it.

Ummm, why? Just because she took out Vale does not mean much. Remember Vale was still recovering very slowly after The Fall and Kevin is still stoned on top of Beacon Tower constantly attracting.
NOTHING in Port's report indicates she nuked it. Decimated what was left, yes, but there is nothing saying she used a relic to 1-shot it with a rock from the sky or anything else RWDE claims she can do with The Staff.

reveal that Salem bounced over to Vale and just fucking wrecked the place as soon as she was done with Atlas really puts into perspective how fucked up Ironwood's plan to abandon the rest of Remnant was.
So many bootlickers, haters and Ironwood stans have tried to frame RWBY as horrible people for refusing to go along with Ironwood's plan and thereby putting Atlas in the line of fire.
But now we have a pretty good idea what would have happened if they (and Penny! Because it was ultimately her decision that mattered!) had fallen in line and helped Ironwood bravely run away.
Atlas might have been relatively safe for the moment however Mantle would have either been utterly annihilated or made to bend the knee (and start working on rockets or something to shoot down Atlas).
Then Salem would have taken her basically completely intact army along with Monstra and attacked Vale as its currently the weakest Kingdom in the most precarious position. This time there would have been no survivors as the Vale huntsmen and army could never have held the like against Monstra, thousands of Beringels + Sphinxes and a dozen carrier sized Tempest Grimm + their own local Grimm attacks. Not to mention that with Atlas fucking off they wouldn't even have any warning so only a handful of teachers would know who Salem even is.
And with communications down it's fully possible that Salem could then have taken Monstra, her armies and possibly also the Grimm Dragon with her to attack Vacuo before they even learned that anything had happened to Atlas or Vale.
After that it would be a simple matter to mop up the rest of the kingdoms and then prepare for the invasion of Atlas (assuming she couldn't just blast it out of the sky with the Sword of Destruction at that point).
Instead the situation may be dire and Atlas and Vale might have fallen but the people of their kingdoms are still alive, the last bastion in Vacuo is prepared and has its defenses bolstered by forces from all across the world, including Atlas military ships, huntsmen and a Winter Maiden which would otherwise be sitting pretty and useless in orbit doing nothing to help.

Grimm army sweeping over Vale. Guess once she finally stopped focusing on digging at Beacon, it was only a matter of time. Still, at least they got most of the people out.

The way I see it Vale has been extremely vulnerable this entire time because the dragon was never fully defeated.
However Salem has not exploited that weakness until now because she's been trying to keep a low profile as per her usual MO.
Once she decided to go loud with Atlas it was only a matter of time until she rolled over Beacon, to maximize despair if nothing else since the cat is already out of the bag.
The thing is, because of the necessity of hitting Atlas first there really was a possibility of things going South for her. If Ironwood had called for help sooner (especially way sooner, as soon as he suspected Salem's agents had already infiltrated his Kingdom) then Salem's army could have been stuck between a hammer and anvil and destroyed properly.
After that Vale could have been reinforced with help from Atlas and Vacuo and Salem would not have had any easy targets to strike.
It really was like Tyrian said, all could have been lost for the bad guys if Ironwood had come to his senses.

I mean, it's not like anyone else ever did... I know, no relic, but I like how the ignored people cast aside keep messing up her plans.
Salem is busy doing a villain monolouge over a battered Team RWBY, then suddenly Kali appears behind her with an unconcious Tyrian in hand and starts beating Salem with Tyrian's body.
