RWBY & RT General Discussion Thread (V1)

It's hilarious to me that there's still idiots in the SB thread trying to insist that RWBY doesn't actually have any remaining popularity and Viz just wanted to acquire a new IP for cheap but not actually do anything with it.

Meanwhile over in reality Viz is proudly and gleefully showing off its new daughter and fans immediately show engagement with high quality fanart in response.

found that tumblr post I was talking about

here is the post
Person #1 - "Remember how VIZ Media bought Homestuck and did absolutely nothing with it?"

Me - "Did Homestuck have the reach and crossovers and just half the stuff RWBY has achieved in the past decade?"

Person #2 - "God okay i know this is probably bait but like Buddy homestuck was one of THE tumblr cornerstones back in the days of superwholock. Homestuck was fucking massive. You had homestuck cosplayers swarming conventions like piranhas. When there was a kickstarter made to develop a homestuck video game it raised almost 2.5 million dollars, a fifth of which was raised on the first day alone. I'd dare say rwby never measured up to homestuck, definitely not the other way around."

Me - "RWBY - 2 games, 1 crossover game, multiple interactions with the world famous Justice League, various comics and manga from both West and East, an anime handled by a well known studio, and the base animated series itself that has various well known voice actors lending their voices to the cast in both English and Japanese. RWBY might of never reached the swarm levels of HS, but I'd say it is more globaly known and recognized than HS."

RWBY's preexisting media can be used by Viz quickly and efficiently. Homestuck doesn't really have that ability, as much as I may have fond memories of it.
Hell Viz has already printed and sold several RWBY mangas.

Person #3 - "Homestuck stayed within its niche. Crwby thinks Rwby is the next Avatar and tried to insert itself into any crossover they could feesibly get into, tried to get Japan sempai to notice them as a real anime, and yet if you went up to any random anime fan and ask "do you know rwby?" you'll get either 1.) Rwby? The webshow that went to shit after the creator died? Its still alive? 2) Oh yeah I used to watch Rwby but fell off after vol 3/vol 5. 3) Who is Rwby?
Homestuck knew what it was while Rwby was scrounging around trying to be everything it isn't just to get some validation
And yet RT shut down because by Barb's admission, Rwby hasnt been profitable since vol 2. Viz Media is basically its life support now. There's no way Rwby will continue to survive with only 400 bee stans thats makes up whats left of the fandom"

And I'm once again wondering about converting Homestuck to more conventional media. I've heard mixed reviews of the physical comics given the differences between them and the original flash animations.

You forgot the board game.
Gosh I had forgotten that, still wanna try it some day.
Viz keeps reminding us that they're happy to have acquired RWBY and have plans go produce more RWBY content.

That they do and I finally signed up for Viz & favorited all the RBWY stuff, all in all very encouraging!

These people sure do love making shit up, that's for sure.

Maybe we should change the name of the thread to RWBY & Viz General Thread?
That'd be a good idea!
Also love both of these XD

Getting my roommate to watch RWBY has been an experience so far. It took us 3 attempts for her to finally be able to face the volume 3 ending, and oh boy is she not prepared for the rest of the show. She says she enjoys it tho so I must keep torturing her.
