RWBY & RT General Discussion Thread (V1)

So, now the question is, did they fall in before the vaults were built, and if so, how did two kids find it?
I think rather that Alyx and Lewis fell into a rift that hadn't been plugged up and turned into a Vault. No reason for there to only be 4 rifts after all. Also the Vault dimensions might not be directly connected to the Ever After, not without another dimension jump at least.

Remember this weird globus dimension that already existed before and after Ambrosius put a portal network there was explicitly the same type of place as the Vaults, and RWBYJN had to fall out of that dimension to reach the Ever After, so whatever the Ever After is it's not quite the same as the Vaults and its not in the same place.

Perhaps Alyx and Lewis found a natural rift to the globus dimension and just fell straight through it since there was no platforms there.

Some amazing theories here, I love the time travel one especially and I had a thought.
Just had a further thought on the time travel idea. Instead of using brute force to break the fruits when you want time to go back to normal maybe Weiss could controll the process with her Time Dilation glyphs?

This volume has already had a lot of the CRWBY poking fun at themselves like with Ciel so it would be funny for the time glyphs to make a return.

On a more serious note I think they could actually justify the lack of time dilation pretty well by clarifying that unlike Summoning the Time Dilation glyphs requires a power source and burns through Dust rapidly, and they also require a lot of concentration to sustain the speed boosts while the Summons also requires a lot of concentration too so she can't use both at the same time.

Basically Weiss stopped using Time Dilation at some point after her father cut her off and she began mastering Summoning because she could no longer afford to spam Dust for a short-lived Haste effect, especially when it was a choice between that and Summons and Summons were both cheaper and more meaningful to her personally.

... Those are two very valid points about moving on from time dilation glyphs.

There is also the fact that out of all of them, Weiss continues to be the team member most experimenting with her fighting style. Support, summons, the problem of summoning times biting her both with Vernal and the Hound, leading to partial summons like the chessboard fight and (possibly) the Knight coming out swinging in the RWBY/JL trailer...

Mhm, excellent insights and additions there!

Yeah as ᛚᛟᚲᛁ ᚱᚢᛚᛖᛋ ᚨᚾᛞ ᚦᛟᚱ ᛞᚱᛟᛟᛚᛊ said, my thinking is there may be other rifts or doorways into the globus dimensions or to Remnant or elsewhere that could have led them to the Ever After and Ozpin just stumbled on four and decided they were a good place to jam the relics.
I didn't expect this parallel but I appreciate it.
Its a near perfect recreation, I love it.

Honestly I think it could be a combo of all of those, also ooh that would be a fun way to poke fun and do something very clever.

Practitioner of all, not yet a master of one.

Also want to clear up a misconception I've seen here and there. Jaune did not have Crescent Rose the entire time he was stuck in the Ever After, it's a bit hard to make out because his voice gets blurred when Ruby is having her panic attack but he specifically mentions that finding Crescent Rose was how he knew that he'd finally reached the present time.

Also I'm pretty sure you can see the flames of Crescent Rose zooming up into the sky when time is reversing.

I really love how they've handled Rusted Knight Jaune this volume. I admit ever since I saw the helmet in the flames I've been worried that this would play into the fantasies of people who want Jaune to be a standard cool edgy main-character type protagonist. With Jaune being aged up there's some real risk that he could be made to overshadow the heroines by suddenly being vastly more skilled thanks to now having decades of experience under his belt.

So it was a relief to see that the direction they're taking his character was instead focused on failure and an inability to move on or get better. From his failure as the Rusted Knight, to his almost certainly to be mistakes of jumping to conclusions and making assumptions, to how even getting stranded in the past was more of a simple mistake that he made than some grand destiny, etc.

Jaune desperately needs the help of his friends much like Ruby does, being older hadn't made him wiser, it's just made him more bitter. He might be more skilled with weapons, Aura and Semblance now, or maybe he's gotten rusty. But regardless he's not here to overshadowed anyone.

I want to pick up and shake every damned dumbass who are giving WBY grief for not realizing just how extreme Ruby's mental state is.

"THE CHARACTERS ARE NOT AS PRIVILEGED AS THE AUDIENCE! THEY DO NOT GET TO SEE DRAMATIC CLOSE UPS OF RUBY'S FACE WHENEVER SHE'S SAD OR UPSET! THEY DO NOT GET TO HEAR THE MUSIC CUT OF AND BE REPLACED BY WHITE NOISE WHEN SHE'S DISASSOCIATING! THEY DID NOT GET TO SEE HER FAILING TO DEAL WITH HER SMOKE COUNTERPART AND INSTEAD BEING DEMOLISHED BY IT! THEY DID NOT KNOW THAT LEAVING HER ALONE IN A MARKETPLACE FOR A FEW MINUTES WOULD LEAD TO HER GETTING SUCKED INTO A DARK MENTAL WORLD WHERE A LADY AUTOMATON WOULD OFFER HER TO CAST OFF HER OLD IDENTITY!"

It gets really frikking annoying sometimes how media illiterate people can be. Do these people also think that Neo is seeking revenge on Ruby for shits and giggles because obviously she knows that Roman got eaten by a random Griffon. The audience saw it happen so obviously she should know as well, right? 🙄

Mhm, I was really worried too, partially for what it could mean in series and even more in fandom cos I thought certain strands of people running wild with it would be more likely, but even then within the series I had some concerns. Though the fact he likely only had the Jabberwalker to contend with did help a bit. But yeah, as you say, the series has really gone all in on Jaune falling in several distinct toxic head spaces and judt drowning in them and he comes off as both very harsh and extremely fragile.

This was very cathartic and correct of you, will definitely be using this as future reference when I hopefully do videos covering V9; cos yeah its a very common problem that the 'critical' seem to forget that every character does not share their perspective on events.

Allright wuzz all this then?

Its a zine, basically a collection of art and sometimes world building or stories united by a theme and story, created and distributed by fans, they used to be a huge deal back in the early days of Fandom, Star Trek Zines were a big deal and they've stuck around. I myself purchased the RWBY fashion Zine and intend to get this one as well.

Mhm, I think Ruby might refuse or replace it for a time in a bid to ascend or escape her trauma, but she will ultimately need to reclaim it.
