RWBY & RT General Discussion Thread (V1)

Any of you read the Norwegian comic book Northern Lights by Malin Falch? Its a portal fantasy where people can travel between worlds by using pinecones that grow on magical trees to create portals between realms.

However the trees aren't just magic, they're actually all part of the same mystical tree (Yggdrasil) that resides partially in the physical worlds and partially in the astral realm/spirit world.

That concept isn't particularly unique, I'm sure there's tons of other stories that have used similar ideas of a multiversal tree.

Which makes me curious if CRWBY are doing it as well. Maybe the way the big tree in the Ever After can be used to travel back to Remnant is by leading from the part of it that resides in the Ever After to a part that resides in Remnant.

If that's the case then I have a suspicion about where that might be:

Well if I recall, Yggdrasil does have a kind of messenger that travels the realms by going branch to branch....

Also man that time tree is fucking terrifying but also opens interesting possibilities. If Jaune was super old because time works weird in the Ever After then there's not much to do about that.

However he landed normally and then traveled backwards in time through a method that can be replicated and even controlled. If one picks a Clockwork Orange/Time Lime/[insert time fruit pun here] from the tree and is ready to smash the fruit as quickly as possible then it should be possible to travel just a few days or weeks back in time instead of years.

And interestingly enough there is a character on this team who has shown an inclination for exploiting loopholes involving magical beings that can mess with time.

After Ruby resolves her issues I feel like her spotting the possibility to abuse the time fruit for their own benefit so that they can prepare Vacuo to receive refugees ahead of time would be a very cool "she's back!" moment.

And to avoid going completely crazy with the idea they could justify not doing more with the fruits with them being afraid of causing a reality shattering time paradox.

I find it notable that Alyx has an actual model in the opening but Jaune's story was told via simplistic/stylized drawings. I think at some point we're going to see an actual flashback (possibly via Ever After shenanigans) that gives us the full story of what happened and the context that Jaune likely missed.

I also wonder about theories that Alyx was the one who sacrificed herself to save her brother and Lewis wrote the story to honor her, softening some of her edges in the process.

If that's the case I wonder if there's anyone that's going to actually succeed at sacrificing themselves to open a way back to Remnant it will be Neo, as a parallel to how Alyx was mostly a terrible and self-centered person but might have learned some empathy and made the ultimate sacrifice near the end.

Lesbophobic pig loser whines about lesbians and the fact that Monty Oum would have never given a shit about him or what he wants, more at eleven~

(I am absolutely collating a collection of "choice" RWDE quotes, but that'll get aired later next week. Same for a post about Dextixer and what a loser he is. Today, and a few more days after that, are for the Bees.)

Edit: Incidentally, here's a question asked of Monty Oum from a RWBY aftershow about whether there would be queer characters in RWBY. His response was about how they couldn't "just shove it out there; it has to be earned". Familiar words, hmm?

Some amazing theories here, I love the time travel one especially and I had a thought.

I loath the idea Ozpin has been to or knows about the Ever After; I do however think that he may have inadvertently tapped into it.

Why?

Well, how did Luis and Alyx get there, and more to the point the fuck are the vaults and how did he make them?

None of the Maiden magic of Salem's seems to operate like the vaults to my theory is there are natural rifts between worlds and Ozpin built the Vaults into them without knowing they led somewhere else.
