notunsatisfiedpalecold that chills me down to the bone. Animals are rare, lonely squirrels peering down from the branches above and wild-eyed deer disappearing just at the edge of sight. Each glimpse leaves my head pounding with pain and confusion, pulses of orange blooming amid the green static. It hurts. It was never like this before. What is wrong with me?
Night has fallen by the time I reach the clearing and the sky is glorious. Countless stars whirl above as I turn, my sight enraptured and the pain forgotten. Could anything be more beautiful than the moon and the stars and the... moon. No. No. I scream and in the distance a braying roar echoes back. In the static blue washes over the stars, slowly disappearing into the sickeningly black and green oblivion above. My skin crawls and I feel dirty, filthy, violated by this thing that Should Not Be. I scoop up my skirts and run as the bleating howls continue. And above a wretched green skull stares down.
