The obvious answer is clearly impossible! Let's go for something that makes no sense!

People have been theorizing it was some variation of Pyrrha for ages, up and to including "The God of Light looked down and saw Jaune's pain and so sent Pyrrha back to Remnant to give him kindness and encouragement before returning her to her rest" which is just fucking hilarious to me given his history.

That Old Badger Faunus from The Crater, the one who gave Oscar food and later seen alongside the human family and Racist Grandma, anyone got headcanons for him?
For me, I say he is an old acquaintance of Nicholas Schnee. Probably worked on digs and mining together.

that's the fun thing with a side character like him.
he could legit be Fiona's Uncle/Grandfather, or it could be a title of endearment like "Uncle" is for Qrow in regards to Ruby (as they aren't biologically related, but instead where he falls in the dynamic of the family).
for all we know Mr. Badger is the Community Uncle/Grandma, like Abuela Claudia in the musical "In The Heights" who while not having children of her own more or less helped look after the people of the neighborhood as best she could so she was essentially The Grandma of the community.
but blood or not, without a single word and instead simple actions made it clear the old man is a kind and caring figure.
