Webcomics Discussion, Recommendations, and Chat

For discussing, recommending and chatting about webcomics.

And I'm just going to dive right in to what inspired me to make this thread: Ava's Demon and Daughter of the Lilies are both hosting Kickstarters for physical prints right now! I strongly recommend giving them a look at the very least:

Ava is the cutest demonic barbarian there ever was. She looks so happy. 🥰

“Chroma Key could easily be described as gay Power Rangers, that would be woefully underselling it. Underneath the colour, and sci-fi is a story that beautifully explores the power of its characters’ uniqueness.”
Ok this is starting to sound really interesting. I have got to get around to reading this at some point (busybusybusy).

Anyway, some other recs:

Some Dungeons & Dragons spoofs, note that for all of these the art (and other aspects) gets a lot better as they go along.

Timeless classics:

Schlock Mercenary is actually complete, if you can believe it.

I've only read the first couple of chapters of this one but it seems intriguing.

Its a very pleasant read blending high concept sci-fi/fantasy and spectacular art with very down to earth characters and feels, but yeah I know that feeling of (busybusybusy).

I have read much of Goblins cos of my affection for mobs and even bought books for Order of the Stick, gosh seeing that series grow has been a trip, not familiar with the other though.

I've herd some great things about these and gave a few a read when I first started getting into webcomics but couldn't keep up sadly XD

That's impressive.

Should I be afraid Google keeps telling me its not secure? XD

At its heart, Nani is a story of sisterhood in the face of adversity. The story chronicles the lives of two sisters who, in a moment of peril, are transported to a magical world full of danger, magic and mystery. They soon find themselves embroiled in a conflict between several warring tribes and, with no route back home in sight, the sisters are left with a single choice: adapt to this new and bizarre world, or perish.
Two beautifully designed graphic novels totalling over 140 pages each - or 300 pages exactly in the hardback edition. A body of work created by artists and writers from five different continents. Above all, a comic book experience you won't find anywhere else. Don't take our word for it, you can read a free preview of Nani on our website right now (which you'll get as an instant PDF if you back the project at any level).
Nani takes place in ‘Samma’, a magical world inspired by West African myths and legends. Samma has been lovingly designed to showcase the beauty of African art and storytelling - everything from the outfits, character designs, magic systems, architecture, and even the humour, has been crafted to represent the best of West African culture.

Samma is inhabited by various creatures and beings that group themselves into different tribes. The tribes can be roughly divided into two groups, the Chosen who serve as the ruling class, and the Fallen who are thought of as lesser beings.

More recs:

Phantomarine. aka the sea is full of ghosts, also the protagonist is a ghost, the dog is a ghost, the evil god that might be slandered is a ghost (kinda), everybody is a ghost. Except Pavel. He's just adorable.

Aurora. Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions makes a webcomic. The result is as epic and troperific as you'd expect.

Vainglorious. Dumbass dragon with no brain to mouth filter gets exiled to the human realms. Shenanigans ensue.

Thunderstruck. One of the oldies of webcomics, it's somewhat generic title can unfortunately make it hard to find with google search (actually so can Aurora). Urban fantasy involving the catholic church and God being evil. There is a parrot god. He squawks. Loudly.

One of those rare mythical beasts known as a Webcomic that's actually complete. Adventurers in a WoW style fantasy world form guilds crossed with the Matrix basically. Don't open that spoiler unless you want to be spoiled on a key plot twist that completely changes the context of the story.

Silly goofy comics about video games and stuff.

And interesting fantasy story with all the queer stuff. So much queer stuff. If you need to get your fix on queer stuff this story lets you snort it like cocaine.

Made by the husband of Meg Syverud, the lady who made Dauhter of the Lilies (the webcomic mentioned earlier). It's still in the prologue phase and slow to update but the art is fantastic and the story looks interesting. Seems like a kind of Russian/steppe based low fantasy world.

Haven't read this one but it's on my "To Do List". Summary is as follows:

In a faraway land of scorching, hot, arid desert called "Al Qaiza" -The Sweltering Land, the Bani al-Badr tribe gain their prosperity and livelihood by trading their intricately designed dagger sheaths. However, they had bargained for more than they could handle when they realized the young heir of the tribe went missing after an unfortunate business deal. But that was just the beginning. The world they used to know will turn to disarray. THT is Prequel to Salam Series -After the Sandstorm(ATSS)

Well, it would help if I remembered to post a second post after I got back to my computer, as opposed to leaving it as a snarky post from my phone :)

But yes. Popeye. As of June this year, they got a new Sunday writer and artist alongside the weekday reruns. Randy Milhoulland, creator of the webcomic Something Positive, and life long Popeye fan (Writing Popeye was a childhood dream of his.)

So Daughter of the Lilies has been updating regularly lately and shit's gotten weird. As in the author/artist had to specifically go out and commission an artist who specializes in drawing weird shit like this because she struggled with drawing something that looked as weird as she wanted it to be.

And apparently it's going to get weirder from her. I am deeply intrigued by this and looking forward to seeing where it goes. :)

Also if you're a fan of epic weird shit then you can now buy a poster and hang it on your wall. :)
