Drafting More Comprehensive Ruleset

Preamble courtesy of Strygix:

Smugcat.moe has been conceptualized as two things. Firstly, it is a leftist webforum- a place where leftists can express and promote their views and opinions through discussions and the creation of stories and artwork based on their principles. Secondly, it is a platform meant, in and of itself, to demonstrate the viability of self-governance in communities, both online and elsewhere, and ideally to serve as a model for future self-governing communities to pattern itself off of.

However, while this is a place made by leftists and for leftists, we do want more 'moderate' individuals- liberals, the politically unaware, etc- to be part of the community. Being an open and inclusive community, of course, makes us to some degree vulnerable to invasions by hostile actors, particularly fascists. In order to prevent a takeover, and ensure that the forum is welcoming to the community we want to create, we must act to exclude fascists, bigots, and reactionaries from the forum, a measure that the community, when asked, was entirely (100%) in favor of.

In order to appropriately moderate the forums, of course, we need a set of rules and community guidelines by which to moderate- and these rules must reflect both the mission of the forums, and the will of the community. As such, we are putting forward a few general rules for the userbase to consider, discuss, and amend as necessary, before putting the rules to a vote.

All rules will be discussed and amended until all parties are fully satisfied, but barring that, a 2/3rds majority will pass a rule, and less than that will bring the rule up for further debate and amendment.

This thread is to be used to discuss the ruleset as a whole, further threads should be opened to propose new rules that the users feel may be necessary.

As we've already discussed in the discord, all of these rules are open to amendments, and it appears most of the modifications talked about there have made it to the current version.

However, we do have proposed amendments for Rule 1 that have not gone through yet: Specifically, expanding it's purview to all content that would potentially cause the forums to be taken down. So, for example, we currently host off of Amazon, which has certain rules about content that we have to follow. Technically these are 'legal' issues- as they are contractual conditions the forum has agreed to, in exchange for hosting- but they are a matter of contract, rather than criminal, law.

I suggest making that Rule 1B for the sake of clarity. Something vaguely along the lines of this:

Rule 1B: We also cannot tolerate anything that would cause us to be taken down by our host (currently Amazon Web Services). As such, in addition to Rule 1, we cannot allow the depiction of rape, [and whatever else AWS bans].
