So, on a topic neither Batgirls or Robin related... :p While I know we both have issues with Grant Morrison, especially with what he did to Talias character, a recent detail came up where I had to stop and applaud him. He recently did a comic, Superman and the Authority, which is pretty much planned to be his last work with DC unless something changes. It was actually pretty optimistic, especially for something involving the Authority, who degenerated in later Wildstorm works into a gleaming example of the turd that is Dork Age Bullshit.

It turns out that this was a sneaky bit of subversion on Grants part. Dan Didio originally approached him to do this comic... and Didio, unsurprisingly, had a fucking awful idea. Namely, Superman was going to go super right-wing and recruit a bunch of anti-heroes to 'save the world properly.' So, Grant took the idea, made sure Dan was properly distracted by having his house of cards at DC finally crash down, and write Superman properly, with none of the ideas Dan suggested.

Hahahahaha!

OK, fair enough that is hilarious.

Also wow thank fuck that was avoided, fuck you Didio!

Yeah its a huge relief, the damage he's done is nearly immeasurable, but at least he's fucking gone.

Also yeesh, poor Jason really did only get like five storylines that didn't make him look like garbage post ressurection didn't he and one was a cameo!

At what point did DC just decide to ignore that adoption makes someone your kid officially?

Like, I've seen old comics, they have literally had Bruce and Dick refer to each other as father and son, same for Jason and Dick refer to Tim as his brother.

Why and when the fuck did they shift!?!?

Around the time Didio and Johns started their bloodlines are good or evil crap. So... 2003 was when it became really clear, with poor Rose Wilson.

Ooof, poor Rose :/

And yeah that sounds about right ><

Who cares if found family has been the bread & butter of this franchise since forever, blood is everything now, both in defining personality and personal relationships!

Unless romance is present, in which case that trumps even the magical blood relations, Bruce has never experienced joy before he and Selina started fucking, UGGGGHHH!

This was also a large part of what happened to Talia, I suspect. She was from a bloodline of evil, so all her previous characterization doesn't matter.

Mhm, though I think racism also played a big role in that and desperation to give Damian an angtsy backstory his new white' family could 'save' him from. As some posts on Tumblr noted, "So long as Damian is 'required' to have an angsty backstory, Talia's character will always be made worse for his narrative benefit"

Bloodline 'morality' ties into racism, honestly.

So, Batgirls is out today. While not perfect, there was a lot I like about it. One little thing I noticed was that they're giving Babs some back problems, and you see her using a cane at one point. At ONE point. Not every time we see her, just at the end of a long day, she's tired and likely less willing to put up with her spine complaining. Good detail.

Oh, seeing as I'm here, I am putting out a new fic!

The dust of the gang war has long since settled, Stephanie Brown is Robin and there is a new crime lord making moves to take over Gotham, one who knows far too much about Batman.

(A fusion/AU of Under the Red Hood, where aspects of both the film and comics are combined and Stephanie is Robin!)

Nice touch with having Robin play good cop via her injuries from war games. Also, can't stop laughing at the attempted nut punch. "You lied to me."

Thanks, the interrogation idea was one of the first I conceived of, I am so glad those aspects worked! Hahaha, thanks, very happy it wasn't just me who finds that funny, the moment I heard "He has the same weaknesses as a human being" I was like "Someone would have to interpret that as nut punch worthy".

While far from the ideal, IE pre Winnick/Morrison Talia, this is an improvement over what we've been getting and she looks lovely.
